How to Rebuild a Fuel Injector

๐ Step-by-Step Guide (5 Steps)
Remove Old O-Rings, Spacers, and Pintle Cap
Use a dull pick to gently roll and lift the upper and lower Viton O-rings off the injector body without scratching the sealing grooves. Slide off the plastic backup rings or spacers. Carefully pry or slice the brittle plastic pintle cap off the nozzle tip without contacting the delicate metal pintle or orifice disc.

Extract the Internal Basket Filter
Thread a removal tool or a #8 coarse drywall screw 2-3 turns into the brass collar of the microfilter seated in the top inlet tube. Grip the screw head firmly with pliers and pull straight out along the centerline of the injector to yank the brass filter basket out. Ensure no torn mesh fragments remain lodged inside the inlet throat.

Back-Flush and Forward-Flush the Injector
Connect a snug rubber adapter tube between the aerosol cleaner nozzle and the injector outlet nozzle to back-flush first. Connect electrical leads to a 9V battery, tapping the wire intermittently to pulse the solenoid while spraying cleaner backward out through the top. Switch the adapter to the top inlet and forward-flush while pulsing until a crisp, even cone mist emerges from the nozzle.

Press in the New Basket Filter
Place a new microfilter basket mesh-end first squarely into the top inlet port. Place the injector upright on a firm wooden workbench and use a flat-faced punch or a block of clean wood to push the brass ring downward until it sits completely flush with the top lip of the inlet tube.

Push the new plastic pintle cap over the nozzle tip until it snaps firmly into its locking lip. Slide on the plastic upper and lower backup spacers in their original orientation. Apply a light film of clean engine oil or silicone grease to the new Viton O-rings and roll them smoothly into the upper and lower grooves.
