📋 Step-by-Step Guide (6 Steps)
Remove Carburetor from Moped
Turn off the fuel valve and disconnect the fuel line from the inlet barb. Loosen the intake manifold clamp screw and unscrew the top carburetor cap to withdraw the throttle cable, spring, and slide. Slide the carburetor body straight off the intake spigot.

- • Tearing the fuel hose by yanking instead of twisting it off the barb.

Remove Float Bowl and Float Needle
Invert the carburetor and remove the two or four screws securing the bottom float bowl. Gently lift off the bowl to expose the plastic or brass float. Push out the float pivot hinge pin sideways, then lift out the float along with the tiny hanging float needle.

Extract Main Jet, Idle Jet, and Atomizer
Use a correctly sized flathead screwdriver to carefully unthread the main jet located in the center column. Remove the pilot/idle jet and gently tap out the atomizer tube/diffuser if removable on your model. Place all brass components in the tray.
- • Center fuel tower empty with internal threads clearly visible.
- • Small brass jets and emulsion tube laid out side-by-side on a clean cloth.
- • Using a driver blade narrower than the jet slot, which shears soft brass jet ears.
- • Prying on internal emulsion tubes instead of gently pressing them out.
Clean All Passageways and Jets
Spray aerosol carburetor cleaner through every passage, orifice, and venturi tunnel until fluid exits unobstructed from the opposite end. Submerge brass jets in cleaner and clear their tiny orifices using compressed air. Remove old crushed paper or hardened rubber gaskets from mating surfaces.
- • Light visible through the center bore of all removed jets when held up to a light source.
- • Carburetor body surfaces free of gummy varnish, crust, and old gasket residue.
- • Poking guitar strings or steel wire through brass jets, which enlarges the calibrated aperture.
- • Leaving rubber O-rings in place while spraying harsh solvents that degrade them.
Install New Rebuild Kit Components and Jets
Thread the cleaned or new main jet and idle jet back into place until snug—do not overtighten. Hook the new float needle onto the float tab and lower it into the needle seat. Slide the hinge pin through the pillars and check that the float moves freely up and down without binding.

- • New shiny rubber tip on the float needle sitting squarely in the intake seat.
- • Over-torquing brass jets, stripping the carburetor body casting.
- • Installing the float upside-down or hanging the needle clip incorrectly.
Seal Float Bowl and Reinstall on Engine
Place the new bowl gasket into its groove and seat the float bowl squarely onto the base. Fasten the bowl screws evenly in an alternating pattern. Slide the carburetor back onto the intake manifold, reinstall the throttle slide matching its guide groove with the idle screw pin, tighten the top cap, and reconnect the fuel line.
- • Gasket seated flat with zero bulging between the bowl and main body.
- • Throttle slide fully dropping to the bottom of the venturi with an audible click when the twist grip is released.
- • Pinching or tearing the bowl gasket by misaligning it during tightening.
