📋 Step-by-Step Guide (7 Steps)
Disconnect Battery and Map Firewall Path
Loosen the negative (-) battery terminal clamp with a socket wrench and tuck the cable safely away from the post. Inspect the engine bay firewall for an existing rubber grommet (such as the main wiring harness or hood release cable pass-through) to feed your heavy-gauge power wire.
- • Negative battery terminal is physically detached and isolated from the battery post.
- • Target firewall rubber grommet identified and cleared of obstructions.
- • Leaving the negative terminal connected while running live power cables.
- • Drilling blindly into the firewall without checking what is behind it on the cabin side.
Route Power Cable Through Firewall to Trunk
Feed the thick power wire through the grommet into the cabin using fish tape or a stiff guide wire. Pull the cable down to the floorboards, lift the door sill trim panels using a plastic pry tool, and tuck the wire cleanly beneath the carpet along the door threshold back to the amplifier location.
- • Power wire emerges cleanly inside the cabin without kinks or tight pinches.
- • Door sill trim re-seated flush with no exposed wire bulging beneath the carpet.
- • Routing the wire around bare metal edges without a rubber grommet, which will chafe and short out.
- • Running the power wire directly over pedal linkages or steering shafts.
Install Inline Fuse Holder Near Battery
Cut the power wire within 12 to 18 inches of the battery positive post. Strip both ends, insert them into the inline fuse holder terminals, and tighten securely, but DO NOT insert the fuse itself yet. Attach a ring terminal to the short lead and secure it to the battery positive clamp bolt.

- • Installing the fuse into the holder before the entire amp installation is finished.

Run RCA and Remote Turn-On Leads
Connect the RCA audio cables and blue remote turn-on lead to the back of the stereo receiver. Route these cables down the opposite side of the vehicle from the power wire, beneath the opposite door sill trim, all the way to the amplifier mounting area.

- • Both signal and power wires meet neatly at the planned amplifier mounting spot.
- • Running RCA cables parallel to the high-amperage power wire, inducing electromagnetic whine into the audio.

Create Chassis Ground Connection
Locate an unpainted chassis metal point within 3 feet (1 meter) of the amplifier. Scrape away all factory paint, primer, and rust down to shiny bare metal using a wire brush or sandpaper, then secure the ground ring terminal firmly using a bolt or self-tapping screw and star washer.
- • A 1-inch bare, shiny metal circle visible beneath the firmly tightened ring terminal.
- • Ground wire length is under 36 inches with no slack loops.
- • Attaching the ground wire over painted, clear-coated, or rusted metal.
- • Using a ground cable that is longer than 3 feet, causing high electrical resistance.
Connect Amplifier and Subwoofer Terminals
Insert the stripped power, ground, and remote turn-on wires into their respective labeled screw terminals on the amplifier and tighten down securely. Connect the speaker wire from the amplifier's bridged or mono output terminals to the positive (+) and negative (-) terminals on the subwoofer box.
- • No stray copper strands exposed outside the terminal blocks.
- • Correct polarity observed: red/positive to (+), black/negative to (-).
- • Leaving loose wire strands splayed outside the terminal, risking a direct short between +12V and Ground.
- • Reversing polarity on the subwoofer terminal cup.
Insert Main Fuse, Power Up, and Set Gain
Insert the main fuse into the engine bay holder and reconnect the vehicle's negative battery terminal. Turn the ignition on with head unit volume at roughly 75%, and slowly turn the amplifier gain dial clockwise until the subwoofer plays loud, clean bass without audible distortion or clipping.

- • Subwoofer cone moves smoothly and produces clean, tight bass with no popping or rattling.
- • Treating the gain knob like a volume knob and cranking it to maximum, causing clipping and speaker blowout.
