- โ Vehicle owner manual
- โ Car seat instruction manual
๐ฆ Materials & Supplies
- โ Graco SnugRide 35 Lite/LX base
- โ Graco SnugRide 35 Lite/LX infant carrier
โ ๏ธ Safety Checkpoints & Warnings
- โข Never install an infant car seat in front of an active frontal airbag.
- โข Do not use both the vehicle seatbelt and LATCH system simultaneously unless specifically approved in both vehicle and car seat manuals.
- โข Ensure base moves less than 1 inch side-to-side and front-to-back at the belt path.
๐ Step-by-Step Guide (6 Steps)
Remove LATCH Connectors from Storage Compartment
Locate the LATCH connectors stored in the designated compartments on the sides of the base. Press the red release button on each connector or unhook them from their storage clips to extend the strap fully. Ensure the webbing is completely flat with no twists.
- โข Both LATCH hooks released and free from base storage brackets
- โข LATCH webbing extended fully across the base belt path without kinks
- โข Leaving the webbing twisted inside the belt path channel
- โข Pulling out only one side of the LATCH strap
Position the Base Rear-Facing on the Vehicle Seat
Place the base flat on a rear vehicle seat designated for child restraints, facing toward the rear of the car. Push the base back against the vehicle seatback cushion. Check the level-to-ground indicator line or bubble on the side of the base.
- โข Base sitting flat against the vehicle seat bottom and back cushions
- โข Level line or bubble roughly centered before final tightening
- โข Placing base forward-facing
- โข Allowing more than 20% of the car seat base to hang off the vehicle seat edge
Attach LATCH Connectors to Vehicle Lower Anchors
Locate the lower LATCH anchor bars in the bight where your vehicle seatback meets the seat cushion. Orient the LATCH hook with the opening facing downward and push it onto the anchor bar until it clicks firmly. Repeat for the anchor bar on the opposite side.
- โข Both metal LATCH hooks snapped around vehicle anchor bars
- โข Hook gates fully closed over the metal bars
- โข Attaching the hook upside-down
- โข Clipping onto cargo tie-down loops instead of true lower anchor bars
Tighten the LATCH Belt while Compressing the Base
Place one hand or knee firmly into the center of the base to push it down into the vehicle seat cushion. With your other hand, pull the free end of the LATCH adjustment strap firmly through the belt path slot. Pull parallel to the belt path rather than straight up to maximize leverage.
- โข LATCH webbing is taut with no visible slack
- โข Base visibly compressed into the vehicle seat foam
- โข Pulling the strap upward toward the ceiling instead of through the belt path slot
- โข Not applying downward weight while pulling slack
Verify Level Indicator and Test for Movement
Examine the level indicator on the side of the base; ensure the level line is horizontal to the ground or the bubble is within the designated zone. Grip the base at the belt path with both hands and firmly pull front-to-back and side-to-side. The base must not move more than 1 inch in any direction.
- โข Level line parallel to flat ground or indicator ball inside the target color zone
- โข Base shifts less than 1 inch (2.5 cm) at the belt path when pulled with moderate force
- โข Testing for movement at the front end (head end) of the base instead of at the belt path
- โข Ignoring an unlevel indicator on sloped ground
Click Carrier into Base and Lock Handle
Lower the SnugRide infant carrier into the installed base facing rearward until an audible click is heard on both sides. Pull up firmly on the carrier handle without pressing the release lever to confirm it is locked. Adjust the carry handle to an approved travel position as stated in your manual.
- โข Carrier latched symmetrically onto front and rear base hooks
- โข Carrier remains locked into base when lifted by the handle
- โข Failing to push down hard enough to engage the second latch click
- โข Leaving the carry handle in an unapproved upright position if prohibited by manual
